Filipino eggplant, locally known as talong, is a long, slender variety of Solanum melongena commonly cultivated in Southeast Asia. It differs from Western globe eggplants by its thin skin, elongated shape, and tender flesh, which cooks quickly and absorbs surrounding flavors. In the Philippines, it is the primary eggplant variety and a staple ingredient in national dishes such as tortang talong (eggplant omelet) and pinakbet (vegetable stew). It grows best in warm climates with full sun and well-drained soil, producing high yields over a long season.
