Dragon Fruit

Fruit

Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, grows on climbing cactus plants native to Central and South America but now widely cultivated across Asia and warmer regions. The fruit is oval-shaped with bright pink to red skin and green-tipped scales that resemble flames.

Flavor & Texture:
The flesh can be white or red, speckled with tiny edible black seeds. It has a mildly sweet, refreshing flavor similar to a blend of kiwi and pear, with a soft, juicy texture.

How people use it:

Eaten fresh by slicing in half and scooping out the flesh.

Blended into smoothies, juices, or fruit bowls.

Used in desserts, sorbets, or as a colorful garnish.

Fun fact:
Dragon fruit blooms at night, and its flowers—often called “moonflowers”—last only one evening before wilting by morning.
